Breast Implant Replacement

Patients may want a Breast Implant Replacement Surgery for a variety of reasons, whether aesthetic or medical. For example, some woman are dissatisfied with their Saline implants and want to change to the more natural feel of a Silicone Gel implant, other times patients fear their implants are leaking and seek to remedy that situation. Many times women simply want to change the size of their breast implant.

No matter the situation, Dr. Kleinman takes the time to review every patient as an individual, to make sure you get the unique look you deserve. Dr. Andrew Kleinman is a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in breast augmentation and breast implant replacement. He will develop an individualized treatment plan to address your specific needs by working closely with you.

BREAST IMPLANT REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

There is little to no pain associated with a breast implant replacement. You may have experienced mild pain and discomfort with your initial breast augmentation procedure because the pectoral muscle was stretched to form a pocket for the implant. However, once the implant is placed in its pocket, the pocket remains, and the original implant is simply switched out and replaced. Often the same incision location from your breast augmentation will be used for your breast implant replacement surgery so there is no need to worry about extra scarring. Dr. Kleinman prefers a breast implant to go under the pectoral muscle, this way making it easier to read a mammogram.

As with all forms of surgery, it is important for the patient to be in good health and to have realistic expectations. The surgery can be performed with general anesthesia or with local anesthesia and sedation by a Board Certified Anesthesiologist. The procedure takes about one to two hours to complete. Full recovery takes about two to three days on average, so you can return quickly to your regular activity. Stitches are removed after two weeks. Your surgery will take place in Dr. Kleinman’s office, where he has a Quad A certified facility by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities.

BREAST IMPLANT REPLACEMENT RECOVERY

During your recovery, you will experience some swelling and bruising. The swelling can take anywhere from three to five weeks to subside. Soreness and discomfort can be reduced with medication, and the breasts may remain sensitive to stimulation for several weeks. After your breast implant replacement surgery you may be required to wear a surgical bra for a period of time. Only mild exercise is advised within the first week, and it is recommended that you wait two to three weeks before resuming strenuous activities.
