Commonly known as nose surgery or a ‘nose job’, rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure which can improve the visual aesthetics of the nose and the function of the nasal passages. A rhinoplasty can reshape, reduce or augment a person’s nose, remove a hump, narrow the nostril width, alter the angle between the nose and lip, or correct an injury, birth defect, or other breathing problem.

Rhinoplasty Before & After Photos

Dr. Andrew Kleinman is a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive rhinoplasty experience, serving clients in Westchester for more than 25 years. He will work with you to develop an individualized treatment plan to help you achieve the nose you’ve always desired. Though there are occasional exceptions, it’s generally advised that rhinoplasty be postponed on younger patients until the nose is fully grown. This usually occurs around the age of fourteen or fifteen. As with all types of surgery, anyone considering rhinoplasty must be realistic in their expectations and be physically healthy.

RHINOPLASTY PROCEDURE

Your rhinoplasty surgery may be performed with local anesthesia and sedation or with general anesthesia. An average of one to two hours is typically needed to perform the nose surgery. Incisions may be made solely on the inside of the nose, which is referred to as closed rhinoplasty, or a small incision may also be made on the skin between the nostrils, known as open rhinoplasty. Once the incisions are made, the desired shape is achieved by sculpting the underlying bone and cartilage. Nose jobs are typically quick and free of complications, however contact our Westchester team for specific advice relating to your individual needs.

RHINOPLASTY RECOVERY

Recovery following rhinoplasty will involve some degree of bruising and swelling, as can be expected following nose surgery. While the majority of swelling will resolve within about two weeks, some subtle swelling may last for up to one year post-surgery. In addition, some discomfort can result which can be countered with medication. The splint, dressing and stitches are usually removed within one to two weeks. Most nose job patients are back to work and their usual routine within one to two weeks.
