Thigh Lift (Thighplasty)

Also known as thighplasty, the thigh lift is a plastic surgery procedure which can tighten and improve loose thigh skin through the removal of excess skin and fat. The surgery can produce a tighter, firmer and more toned appearance.

As a board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Andrew Kleinman has extensive experience in plastic surgery and in thigh lift surgery in particular. Dedicated to helping you achieve your desired look, he will work closely with you to develop an individualized treatment plan. The thigh lift is often ideal for patients looking to improve sagging thigh skin which has resulted from significant weight loss. As with all surgery, anyone considering a thigh lift should also be realistic in their expectations for the outcome and in good health.

THIGH LIFT PROCEDURE

Your thigh lift surgery may be performed with general anesthesia or with local anesthesia and sedation. Several hours are typically needed to perform the surgery. The incision may be located from the inside thigh/groin crease running around to the buttock crease or a longer incision may be made which runs around the upper thigh from the groin around to the back, sometimes along with an additional perpendicular incision. Once the incisions are made, excess skin is removed and liposuction is used to remove excess fat.

THIGH LIFT RECOVERY

Recovery after the thigh lift will involve some swelling and bruising, most of which will fade within two to three weeks. In addition, some discomfort and pain may occur during the first few days which can be countered with medication. Drainage tubes, if used, are typically removed within a few days while stitches are usually removed within one week. Patients may need to wear a compression garment for several weeks. Though total recovery time may last from three to six weeks, most thigh lift patients are back to work after about two weeks.
